Jonathan Van Parys (1982)currently works at Semetis overseeing the development and deployment of a kick-ass performance management platform for online advertising campaigns.
Jonathan has an MA in Economics from UCLouvain. After graduation, he worked as a Researcher at the Facultés Universitaires Saint-Louis in Brussels. At the time he co-authored an empirical paper about languages in Belgium which was quoted by a legislation proposal calling for sub-titling on television.
After that, Jonathan worked as an Economist at IBM, where he advised multi-national companies on where to locate their operations. Before joining Semetis, he worked for several years as a Statistician at SAS Institute where his job consisted in creatively using mathematical modeling and data visualization to solve business problems for which the best solutions are heavily reliant on insights from data.
Jonathan has also recently mixed his interest in data with hacktivism by setting up ‘Where's My Villo?’, which pushes for improvements to Brussels' bike-sharing scheme. His initiative has received widespread acclaim and Jonathan recently wrote about the benefits of open data for the Open Knowledge Foundation.
Jonathan is fluent in English, French, Dutch and Italian. He’s probably the only guy in Brussels who cooks his own “pizza al taglio” at home.
