How to use Google Analytics to keep track of Browsers market shares in Belgium?Early 2010, we demonstrated how to follow the internet browsers' market shares using Google Analytics. We took figures of the second half of 2009. First conclusion:
only 4 web browsers are leading the way: Internet Explorer from Microsoft, Firefox from Mozilla Foundation, Safari from Apple and Chrome from Google. Second conclusion, the leader, Internet Explorer, faced a tough competition coming from Firefox and from Safari and Chrome too. Internet Explorer went even under the 70% market shares during the month of October. Browsers Market Shares in Q1 2010Today, three months later, we are curious to observe how these trends are evolving in 2010. Last week, we had a close look at the browser report of Google Analytics to quantify this evolution for the first quarter of 2010. Not surprisingly, the trends of the last 6 months of 2009 are confirmed by the figures of the first three months of 2010. Indeed, Internet Explorer has never been so low with 67,20% market share in March 2010. At the opposite, the winner is Google Chrome jumping between January and March from 4,04% to 4,84%. In other words, Google Chrome had a 20% growth! Regarding Firefox and Safari, they were pretty stable.
Just the beginning? At Semetis, we believe that this trend will go forward during the next coming months. Apple's offer and Apple's devices are expanding (Mac, iPhone, iPod, and now iPad). Google keeps pushing Chrome and is flirting every day a little bit more with consumers marketing. Soon or later we will also be able to measure the impact of the ballot screen. Nevertheless we should not underestimate Microsoft. Even though it was not a hard believer of Cloud Computing solutions since the early days, Microsoft has changed its mind and is moving to the Cloud as well. Large online Display advertising campaigns and tv campaigns are popping up these last weeks. To be continued...
